If you are new to the online business or you are not getting benefits of link building technique this post is for you. I came across this technique after two years of my online experience and was astonished to see the results after implementing the same on my sites.

I am not talking about the internal links between the posts or pages of your site (although these also contribute a little) but external links for which search engines care while crawling your site. These are the links from other external sites to your site which Google considers for ranking of your site.

External links are very useful for ranking of your site and Google considers every link as a vote from other sites in favor of your site. The more votes you have the more it convinces the search engines that your site has value. Why? Because Google are most concerned about the search experience of their visitors and they want to assure that the visitors are getting more value from the search results. Satisfied visitors to their search engines mean more business for them. That is why they consider every aspect of finding valuable content of which one is external links. It is also important to understand that only generating links is not sufficient this must be done properly so that Google can credit your site for the external links. The people working on Google are not idiots and they know that you will generate external links which is natural and that’s why they credit the links also. The key here is the natural behavior of the links i.e. if you have a website with one or two articles it is common sense that very few links will be there, obvious! Why webmasters will link to a site when there is nothing valuable for readers? So getting hundreds of links to an empty site within couple of days is unnatural and Google knows how to handle this cheating.

There are lots of programs and scripts that generate hundreds of thousands of links but I suggest to keep away of them if you want good ranking in search engines and try to establish natural genuine links. Otherwise you may lose credibility of your site and can be de-indexed and even banned to be displayed on search engines. So before making links ensure at least 15-20 pages or articles are published on your site and never try to buy the links it is also not acceptable by search engines.

Types of Links

There are three different types of links your site may have:

Outgoing Links: These are least valuable in all types but still impact the rating of your site for different search engines. These links indicate you are voting for other sites. To create few outgoing links reflects that the links are natural and increases value in front of Google. The disadvantage is that your visitors may leave your site therefor you can link to some authority sites like Facebook, Google or yahoo so that users are familiar with them and will not bother to click.

Reciprocal Links: These are a little bit important as compared to outgoing links so try to find out some sites that provide link interchange. While selecting the links consider the nich of your content and only link to the content related to your site.

One Way Incoming Links: These are most important and useful links which other sites are having for your site with reciprocal link. This is the strongest vote in your favor and depends upon the PR rating of the site the link is coming from.  If the ranking of the site is high the vote value is high and helping pushing your site up in search ranking.

To summarize I suggest you to focus  on getting incoming links and also taking care of reciprocal and outgoing links.

Few platforms you can use for link building are:

1. Social networks i.e. facebook, google +1, stumbler etc.
2. Writing articles in famous article site i.e. ezinearticles.
3. Making valuable genuine comments on famous blogs i.e. problogger, hongkiat etc and forums and newspaper blogs etc.
4. Reciprocal linking sites i.e. linkmetro.
